How to make Chinese lemon chicken

For the chicken:

  • In a large shallow bowl, whisk the egg, soy sauce, and wine. After fully combining, chicken is added and marinated for 20 minutes covered.
  • In a big baking pan, activate corn starch. After adding the chicken and marinade, evenly distribute the corn starch over the chicken pieces and lightly press it into place.
  • Warm the oil in a large wok, pan, or skillet over medium-high heat. Shake off any extra corn starch from the chicken and fry it in batches in a single layer for 5 to 6 minutes, flipping the chicken halfway through cooking, or until golden brown and well cooked. The oil should be heated (325°F or 165°C).
  • Drain onto a paper towel-lined plate. Remove oil from the pan and wipe it over with a paper towel.

For the sauce:

  • Over medium-high heat, heat the oil. Cook the ginger and garlic until fragrant, about 30 seconds.  Add the lemon juice, honey, sugar, soy sauce, stock, and a pinch of salt. Stir and simmer while allowing the sugar to dissolve.
  • Add the corn starch mixture to the sauce once it has thickened. After 2 minutes of tossing in the sauce, the chicken ought to be thoroughly coated.
  • As a garnish, use lemon slices, green onions, and sesame seeds.
