Steps of making red velvet cake with cooked frosting

Make the Cooked Frosting

  • In a saucepan, combine the flour and milk and mix while cooking until thickened.
  • Put in a small bowl and cool in the fridge.
  • In a mixing dish, combine the butter, sugar, and vanilla using an electric mixer.
  • A little at a time, add the cooled flour and milk mixture.
  • Add milk (or cream) if necessary, and beat well for several minutes, or until the mixture is grain-free. While baking the cake, set aside.

  • In another bowl, mix the chocolate, food coloring, and 2 tablespoons of water.
  • Cream the eggs and add the red cocoa; stir well.
  • In a separate basin, mix the salt and flour.
  • While beating at a low to medium speed, add the flour mixture and buttermilk to the batter in turns.
  • In a cup, mix baking soda and vinegar.
  • To the cake batter, add the soda-vinegar combination.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the floured and greasing cake pans. 22 to 28 minutes for baking.
  • Completely cool on wire racks.
